What to do when the lenses get stuck out when telephoto is used?

I have used the g10, G11, and G12 in my boat inspection business for years and have had seven G11 and G12 cameras get the lenses stuck. I sent seven to a guy on ebay in a deal to fix one in exchange for six stuck ones. This is a real problem that I would like to attempt to fix myself, as I still have three that work although one got stuck for a while and started working again for unknown reasons.

it depends if the camera was dropped when in use, which could mean that the inside barrels/components have shifted out of place

it could be the flex cable in which case they can be replaced, but it has to be dismantled - there are youtube videos about it

it could be another mechanical error, like the one I'm facing now and it has to do with the lens curtain/cover latch inside that I havent found a solution, but I guess it can be either repaired or replaced

I used Canon G11 and G12 for years and had the stuck lens problem on 6 or 7 of them.

Sent 4 or 5 to someone on ebay to trade all but one to have the one repaired. Apparently he knows the process.

@paulfannin I dont doubt what you say, no reason to anyways, but from the research I've put looking at repair videos or forum posts I realize that many have had their cameras repaired even with simpler actions.

In any case, its up to the owner of the camera how much they want to be involved in the process of repairing or just handling it over to a technician and relying on his/her word (since you 're not there to see whats going on).
