1st power press does nothing, 2nd setting spins brush but no suction
When I turn on the vaccum no light or bare floor suction. When I press for brush, the brush spins but no suction.

Any more back ground to what may have caused this short circuit? Water, hit something, overheated,

A few possibilities;
- The local breaker is tripped or bad - if there is one - require a push to reset or new breaker.
- The switch is bad - requires new switch
- A connection has come loose or been corroded - it is not passing electricity - typically spade connectors - they must be very tight.
- A thermal cutout in the motor - Usually can't be replace - new motor
- the motor is bad - new motor
