How to fix USB-C hub cable that only works when bent? Tear it down?

I have had a Satechi USB-C hub like this one for 2 years now (which I know regret buying because ...), the cable only works when I bent it with adequate force while plugged in, why is that?

Would I have to tear it down to see the inside? There are no screws, and the outer case appears to be metal and there are black cover on both sides like in the photo. I have no clue how to open it.

Itsounds like you have a cracked wire if you have to hold it down to make electrical contact. Usb c wires are very small so ifyou open it up it may be difficult to repair. Do you have small soldering tools and magnifying glass?

Usb c power is reversible, did you rry flipping the cable over? Those charging wires may work.

I have the same product but the same problem but with a different satechi product! - in my case a wireless magnetic phone charge cable. The USB-C component is very long and susceptible to significant force if pressured while plugged in, and I think satechi haven’t designed significant flex or strength into their connectors to prevent this.

If you can loosen the housing on the connector and slide it back over the cable to expose the internals, you might be able to micro solder the connections or solder trace wires that don’t mind some flex. You’ll need a fine tip soldering iron and a magnifying glass and tweezers
