F1915, no reason to become hostile on here. Nobody is telling you what you can and can not ask. Both answer you received are valid and proper. If people spend their time to answer your question, you should be polite, and say thank you. Even if it is an answer that you do not like. We are all volunteers on here and do not mind answering questions, but we do mind rudeness and impoliteness.

why not ask Apple? Seems far more direct than asking here...And the purpose of this site is to promote repair by you, the owner! So, I recommend you take a look through the extremely good guide on the right under the photo of the iPod

I asked a simple question. There is no need to tell me what I can ask or not ask on this site. I've gotten different answers from Apple. That is why I asked here.

As I told you, there's no definite answer. Seems some AASP (Apple Service) will, for a paid fee. Some others, won't, since official spare parts become scarcer in time. That's what an AASP told me: they can fix what Apple still gives them the parts to, mostly.

Furthermore, there are many third part services who caters to "old" iPod and iPhones, according on what your hometown is.

if you want to know what APPLE can fix you have to ask APPLE. I am not being rude I am merely stating a fact. I wouldn't ring a baker and ask if the butcher sells a rack of lamb, nor would I ask a Toyota dealer whether Ford repair Chevrolets. Nobody here can guarantee what Apple will or will not fix so your question isn't fair to us. I'm sorry you don't like my answer but this is a site promoting DIY repair and as far as possible we try to stick to that principle.

Seems conflicting: despite having heard that Apple doesn't service devices older than six-five years, I got a vintage Macbook serviced the same, so, I believe there's no reason for them to refuse.

Only, it will be a paid repair, of course. Furthermore, there are many companies offering to service iPods and iPhones, and as Polly said, you could even do it yourself, with the cost of the parts.
