It's possible for a bend to damage the internal components of a Mac.

Hi, can the bend damage internal components over time or something? Right now it’s working fine.

What happened? The case is the structural element of the system. So to straighten it you’ll need to remove a good portion of the internals so they don’t get damaged (that’s assuming they are still working). Leaving it in this state does risk shorting or stress damage.

With most of the internals removed one can carefully reshape the case but I’ll be honest once the metal has been fatigued it is not as strong and may not line up cleanly as it once did.

The other option is to replace the uppercase frame transferring the parts over

In either case it’s a far amount of work independent of the cost of the needed parts.

@danj, I purchased this MacBook in its current condition, so I'm not sure what happened to it. It's the MacBook we discussed before, where you helped me with iCloud and lock issues. I erase it, and there's no activation lock, but the display isn't working properly. I'm using it as headless Mac with a monitor now. I got it for $20, and it's the i9 model with 32GB RAM and a 512GB SSD. I don't mind that it's bent; I just want it to keep working. Even the battery seems fine. The bend is better towards the front, where the motherboard is, so I hope it stays stable like this.

I added some photos to the question.

@kicmer - Do you remember phonograph records? How you store them over time could damage them. People often stacked them on edge so one could slide out one record but over time the record would warp if not held tightly (wedged). This then created the risk of the stylist to skip as well as tonal distortion.

So here the logic board is not at its ideal plane so the solder joints are under stress also the edges and components could get too close to the case or other elements shorting out. As far as the battery which is in the front edge that too has compression issues as it’s a sandwich of plates and dielectric spacers as well as insulator sheets, which can fail over time.

Given what you have paid for it, I think it’s worth the cost to replace the display and at least reshape the case spending $400 for a used display is well worth it! MacBook Pro 15" Complete Display - Silver and even getting a used uppercase for $300 or less still makes this less than a grand which is still less than the current used price for the same system (2k for 32GB system)

@danj Yea, I going to wait and hope to find the Mac in good condition with screen and with a broken/locked motherboard. And then replace the motherboard and Touch ID/power button. I am on a tight budget and parts in Czech are expensive (refurbish screen is 675 USD). And I am just 16 years old and I am happy what I accomplished and what I have.

@danj Also is there a way to setup windows through bootcamp with the external monitor. The windows logo just blinks and then is just black. Probably because the windows doesn’t have drivers for the monitor. I couldn’t find any way how to do it. Just a lot of guys who have the same problem.

@kicmer - BootCamp offers the needed drivers within it. But you maybe facing the limits of the display failure if you are using the systems keyboard and trackpad. Instead use an external keyboard and mouse and close the lid so the display is not active (Clamshell Mode) that will force the external monitor to be used. Click on the link I posted while the display I pointed to is a better one, if you need to pinch your pennies go for a cheaper used one when they show up. Maybe you have a friend in the UK which can help you get the display at the cheaper price than what you can get locally.
