Broken firewire cable may have damaged circuitry

The iPod was connected to my MacPro via a Firewire 800/400 adapter which got kicked, the 800 end broke resulting, in a probable short. The ipod still functions and charges, but is now invisible to the computer. The board looks OK but I'm guessing there's probably a component or two that may have suffered. Does anyone with pcb level knowledge have any ideas of a fix?
