Phone won't boot up after battery replacement

I recently bought the Google Pixel 5 OEM battery replacement and tool kit from ifixit. I followed all the steps and successfully installed the new battery. I was about to seal up the screen when something told me to check to see if it even works first. Holding the power button does nothing. I thought ok maybe I need to fully charge it overnight...still nothing. The only thing I can get to work is holding the volume down/power button together. This opens up some sort of fast boot menu so I know the screen and battery are actually connected. Nothing happens when I go through the options (recovery mode, rescue mode, restart bootloader, etc.)

How can I get my phone to boot up so I can use it???

Update (01/17/24)

EDIT: I connected my old battery and the phone boots up as normal. So I know there is nothing actually wrong with my phone other than needing a new battery. Reconnected new battery and still can't get the phone to turn on.

Hi James,

To be honest, it seems to me that Google has some sort of quality control issues with their replacement parts (which is what iFixit sells). It's been mostly concentrated with their screens, but sorry to say it wouldn't surprise me to find that those issues are also plaguing batteries as well.

You should definitely get in touch with iFixit's Store personnel and talk to them about the possibility of a replacement. Bad parts do happen and my experience with them has always been positive. Best way is usually to email them at support@ifixit.com.

That's extremely disappointing if they sent me a faulty battery. Is there any other trouble shooting I can do while I try talking to their support team?

@jamesbrown90541 Well yes, but keep in mind they are buying genuine Google parts in an attempt to provide the best parts possible for repairing your phone. If you can't get good parts from the manufacturer, what else can you do?

I can't think of much else to try, other than perhaps just plug in the replacement battery and leave it on the charger over night. You've done a good job diagnosing the problem, so there's really not much left. Maybe double check the condition of the connector on the new battery, but otherwise there's really nothing much else you can do or check.
