Screen is black, but I can still hear notifications & touchscreen work

After I ended the call, the screen was black. I thought it needed to be charged; however, when I put it on the charger, I found it still working, but with a black screen. There was no physical damage or drop.

This had happened to me 6 months ago as well. Back then, after it occurred, I left the phone aside for about 2 days. After that, the screen started working properly again.

But now, it's been a week and the screen is still black.

Hi Zaaied,

Although it's difficult to say for sure, it really sounds as though the proximity sensor on your phone has failed. That sensor is responsible for turning off the screen when you put the phone up to your ear, but the thing is it shouldn't be active unless you're on a phone call. Have you restarted the phone since it went black? The bad thing about it if it is the proximity sensor is that it's built into the motherboard, so it either requires a very skilled repair technician to use microsoldering techniques to replace it, or you'll have to put in a new motherboard. Here's a picture showing the location of the proximity sensor.

That's not to say the proximity sensor is the only possible cause. It could be as simple as a failed OLED display, although this doesn't seem like your normal failure.

I'd try a hard reset but after that I'm not quite sure where to go with it. The screens are far too expensive for me to just suggest replacing it without stronger evidence that it's the problem. This one may be a case where it will be worth your time to take it to a repair shop for a diagnosis of the problem.

I attempted to perform multiple force restarts, but unfortunately, the issue persisted without resolution. Seeking professional assistance, I consulted an individual experienced in phone repairs. Regrettably, the technician was not do not to fix any Samsung devices previously. The technician suggested that the potential cause could be attributed to a loose screen cable, drawing parallels with a similar issue encountered in iPhones. The technician further mentioned that this circumstance might or might not be applicable to Samsung phones.

@mohanadzayed To be honest, the technician could be correct about it being a loose cable, but his comparison with iPhones is a bad one. The thing is, iPhones have all of their connectors secured down with metal plates, whereas the Samsung phones rely on the large plastic covers over the upper and lower halves of the phone. So we rarely see connector problems on iPhones. It may be worth your while to open up the phone and check that connector; use the screen replacement guide to show you where the connector is and how to access it.

Follow the instructions up through Step 17 to get to the connector.

As I said, it's one of the few things you can try yourself with a minimum amount of outlay of time and money, but you honestly shouldn't get your hopes up to high that it's going to help.
