After attempting to clean keyboard, laptop won't power on

Following the directions on removing the keyboard from this site, I dismantled the laptop, removed the keyboard, cleaned, and put everything back together again. Now though, when I plug in my power adapter and press the power switch, nothing happens. No fan, no sound, nothing else.

The status indicator at the front of the laptop never turns on or breathes, and the power adapter's led is green. I've double and triple checked that all the connectors on the keyboard are connected (backlight, keyboard ribbon, trackpad ribbon, and motherboard connection you manually press into place).

I must have disconnected something without realizing, or am not properly connecting one of the ribbons mentioned above. Given my description, does anyone have any hints as to what may be the issue? Under what situations does the white status indicator light turn on?

How far do the ribbons need to be inserted into those connectors? For example the orange one that connects to the trackpad, should it be in all the way up to the black line? I haven't been able to push it in further.

I wanted to clean it because certain keys were stuck/not working after a bit of coffee spilt.

I've attached images of the four ribbons reconnected. Maybe something will stand out to someone with more experience at this. At this point I'm trying to get my hands on a multimeter to start checking connections manually.

I had a similar problem connecting that track pad cable on my MacBook, but I'm assuming that if you completely removed the topcase you're familiar with the lock mechanism in the connector? Make sure the lock is completely released before you try re-inserting the cable.

Did you clean only the keyboard or the top case too ? No liquid near the top case power switch ?

Since you seems to have a power issue related to the top case double check the top case connection to the logic board.

No liquid on anything except the keyboard. I removed the backlight circuitry sheet and plastic as well. Are all 3 ribbons possible, plus the top motherboard ribbon, possible causes of this behavior, or only certain ones?

I think the only way to know if your top case is good or bad is to connect a known working top case to the logic board and try to boot the machine.

With the help of a multimeter (and the friend who owned it), we managed to trace down that voltage was only appearing at the power switch when the ribbon connecting the top case to the motherboard was bent in a certain way. Looks like the ribbon itself was damaged somehow, although I'm not sure if it was something I did or something that happened previously.

Either way, although the keyboard still has the key issues I can at least use the laptop with a usb keyboard again (looks like the ribbon is currently making a connection, can't say how long it will last). Looks like I should start searching for a replacement top case.

How did you clean the the keyboard?

If you used a liquid did you allow it time to dry (72hrs minimum using a desiccant)?

If you damaged the ribbon cable or connector at either end you'd have this problem.

Ilooks to me as if the black block connector is not sitting flat, if not no/poor connection, recheck it.

I did use a liquid (just plain water), although I only washed one side of the keyboard, it never touched the ribbon. That said, I did not wait the 72 hours (more like 12). Perhaps this is the issue, although would there be any way to verify (seeing as how i don't have any spare parts to check against)?

I've checked (with a multimeter) to make sure the grounds are connected between the top case and bottom, so the black block connector appears fine.

It is definitely starting to appear that I may have killed the keyboard completely (and possibly the rest of the laptop), although I didn't realize that would manifest in this way. I was kind of hoping for something more dramatic. Smoke would have been more satisfying.

Could there have been/still be tea under the logic board? Could there be corrosion on/under the board? There's nothing between the keyboard and the logic board to retain a liquid but air, and little

antistatic tape.

That would happen if it can't see the keyboard. Why did you clean the keyboard?
