Damaged Battery, Needs replacement? Safe?

Today I was opening my iPhone 4 up so that I could replace my home button. While trying to remove the battery, I experienced a lot of resistance from the glue.

While prying the battery out, I must have punctured the battery in some way and a puff of smoke came out with a hiss.

Terrified, knowing how violent lipos can get, I ran outside with the phone and it is still sitting there. I am not sure what to do.

Is there a danger of igniting the battery with further tampering or shifting?

Am I in danger if I continue to pry the battery out with a more blunt tool?

Can I still use the battery?

Thanks for the help!

Austin, I would most certainly NOT reuse the battery. The LiPo reacts with the humidity and does create a fire hazard etc. Remove it from your phone and discard it appropriately for your area. If you are concerned about any further hazard, remove the battery in a safe environment and try to not damage it further. Good Luck and stay safe.
