How do I reconnect ribbon 3 and 7 to their connectors?

I have recently begun repair of an iPhone 3GS. I have put everything back together except connector 3 & 7. I have tried for long lengths of time attempting to reconnect both of these, but no matter how hard I try, they will not connect. I finally got 3 in, but as soon as I close the lid down on the connector, it pulls right out. Seven wont even try to clamp in. Does anyone have any help? Also, can anyone recommend some tools to allow me to do this a lot easier?

The connector 3 socket has a black section which is actually the latch for it. Once you insert the ribbon cable press that black piece down (it should be up when you insert the cable) and be sure that it is all the way down. Cable 7 is just a press fit. If you are having troubles, a little electrical or kapton tape may provide the necessary force to keep things down when re-assembling.

1st make sure you have the correct part... although they look identical, the iPhone 3 and 3GS LCD are different, and they will not fit. If you are certain you have the correct part, the trick I use for the #7 (LCD) connecter is to Listen for 2 clicks when you snap it in. the #3 doesn't go in all the way, you can see if you look closely that the tip of the ribbon cable usually has either a line or is shaded different colour either lighter or darker gold... don't go beyond that. then make sure it's lined up and the latch snaps back into place

Update

I just replaced one and took some pix for you... 1st pix shows clip is flipped open

2. insterted... noticed it's not in all the way.. just only until where the shading change

3 last pix is clip flipped down...

You can use anything to flip it down, I just usually use my finger, but a plastic butter knife is good

It is a 3gs screen. I noticed the shade, but I put it in, and close the clamp, and it comes right back out. Do I have to push it in at all? If so, what tool should I use?
