Why does my top screen stay blank when it's on?

When i open my dsi and turn it on, the bottom screen works and the top screen turns on but does not show anything except for these weird blurry dots. Also when I open the dsi all the way and the hinge snaps the bottom screen stops working and these weird lines appear. The top screen also gets mor and more dark over time. I would love answers!
