Are these lines on the display fixable?

I just replaced the HD in my iMac with an SSD. I’ve opened iMacs up before and had no problem. I made sure I checked all the connectors. I followed the iFixit directions. I put the adhesive strips in place, then put the display in place and used painter’s tape to keep the bottom edge of the screen in place. Once that was done, and with the computer still held tilted back (by the foam padding), I lifted the top of the screen to attach the power and data cables.

When I powered on, this is what I got. I unplugged it, double-checked the connectors. No dirt, no bent things - all connected as it should be. I turned it on again to check it and get this photo. After I took the photo, I did see the Apple logo and the progress bar come up, so the display is active, but I still unplugged it again. I don’t know if this is already permanent damage or if it’s fixable. I don’t want to leave it running at this point because I don’t know if leaving it on will cause more damage, like frying capacitors or something like that.

So is this a case of once you see it happen, it’s gone? Or is it fixable if I do things like cleaning and checking connectors? And if it’s gone, what’s the best way to get a replacement display quickly? The Apple store won’t sell just a part like this, right?

Does the screen appear cracked or scratched at all? If I'd does then you have probably damaged the screen (obviously). If the screen looks fine, I really don't know.

Sorry if this didn't work, and have a nice week.🙃

The display looks fine, on the front and from the back and on the edges. I thought it might be the cable, but now there are a number of reasons I'm pretty sure (well, almost positive) it's a display. Also, this is close to my issue: https://apple.stackexchange.com/q/398634...

Considering the cost of a new screen, I may have to just get a replacement. I was really hoping to keep this one going until the 27" M1 iMacs came out, then move this one down into my workshop to run a CNC and 3D printer.

Okay, hope you have a nice day

@tangooversway - Sadly the display was damaged likely when the system was opened.

Here's the needed part 27" iMac Display Assembly, Apple P/N 661-7169 and here's the guide to put it in Sostituzione schermo iMac Intel 27" EMC 2546

@danj Thanks - you've confirmed my thoughts. Basically it's almost "Worst case," here, but at least I can use it. I'm seeking a US source for the part. I can take it in to a service place where I've talked to the tech, but they have to take it and test it, then keep it until the replacement comes in, so that's 1-3 days without a computer.

I'm betting the damage didn't happen during screen removal. I've done this whole thing a number of times. The one part that's a real pain for me is removing the adhesive. I can peel off the strip, but there's always a lot of gunk left on and I know that can lead to a bad seal if it's left on. I'm betting I damaged it while removing the gunk.
