My ps3 superslim reads all the other types of discs, but not ps3 games

As the title says,

My ps3 super slim reads:

Movie DVDs

Blu Ray Movies

Music CDs

PS1 Games

What it doesn't read:

PS3 game discs

I even tried a system restore to no avail.

Am I looking at a laser issue?

Have you tried to update or reflash the firmware? sometimes this fails and give wonky behavior like this. you will need a pc/mac and a USB stick. youtube is your friend!
