Dell screen not showing anything blank

Is the laptop booting into Window as when starting i.e. can you hear the HDD spin up or hear the Windows welcome sound (if turned on)?

If the laptop is booting into Windows, try connecting an external monitor (TV?) to the laptop’s HDMI port and check if you get a display on it when the laptop is turned on. Remember to press the Fn + F8 (both keys together) to toggle the display between laptop only, external only or both on together.

If there is a display on the external monitor, with the laptop turned on and the display set for the laptop try shining a torch at an angle close to the laptop’s screen and check if you can detect any images at all. They will be very faint if they are there so trying this in a darkened room may help to see them.

If you can see images then there is a backlight problem with the laptop screen. This could be either a screen problem, a video cable problem or a backlight power supply problem on the motherboard.

If there are no images then there is a problem with either the screen, the video cable or the motherboard.

If there are no images on the external monitor, then there is a problem with the motherboard.

If the laptop is not booting into Windows try accessing BIOS by pressing F2 very soon after starting the laptop and check if there is a display in BIOS.
