How do I fix the Top document or ADF feeder?

Hello. I have a question for a problem I have on my HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 printer. How do I fix the document or ADF feeder part?

I wanted to clean it up because it wasn't accepting any papers I wanted to scan. I took apart the left side of the ADF feeder. I'm not sure which side is this metal rod is supposed to go to? I need help ASAP.
