Connected MBP Early 2015 to Samsung 4k monitor. HDMI>HDMI works as expected, 3840x2160@30Hz.
Then I connected Mini DP > DP (monitor side). I expected 3840x2160@60Hz but all I get is 2560x1440@60Hz. In Preferences I cannot select any higher resolution with this cable.
Is it a cable problem? Or I missed some configuration?

Ah! You found the loophole! mDP vs Thunderbolt connections are not the same.
To get 2560x1440 you need a Thunderbolt cable and the monitor needs to be Thunderbolt compatible!

Monitor has two ports: HDMI (2.0) and DP (1.2). MBP 2015 is supposed to be capable of 3840x2160@30Hz via HDMI. Which is what I get using HDMI cable.
So, I read many posts saying that by using mini DP > DP cable I should be able to use 3840x2160@60Hz, which would make a clearer picture.
But it doesn’t work in my case. Any ideas why I only get 2560x1440 in this case?

@jagoche - You need this cable: Thunderbolt 2 Cable (2.0 m) and the display needs to support Thunderbolt 2 input.
