Temperature in freezer shows big variation

i have some issues wit my GE(GSL25JFTABS) side by side fridge. The fridge was not cooling enough and i noticed the temperature in freezer and fridge going up after 3 days. i saw frost in the evaporator coil and saw the thermostat wires were slightly out of position. replaced that with new GE genuine part. After manually defrosting and changing thermostat, freezer started working fine , but after 3 days same issues started popping out. Saw frost in freezer and temperature was going up so as fridge. Checked the defrost heater and saw it very black and did’’t pass continuity test. replaced it with GE original part.

The freezer and fridge is working fine for 2-3 days. but i saw big temperature variation in freezer. I have portable thermostat in both places. Fridge is showing steady temperature under 40F (high is 43F and lowest was 32F), but freezer thermostat is showing high as 45F and low as -10F) . i haven’t put anything in freezer yet to test it out. This Cycle in freezer happens every day, each night i reset the thermostat and next day morning freezer shows high of 45F to -10. the ice is not melting in freezer… any idea why so big temperature variation.

any help is appreciated.

Presuming this refrigerator is out of warranty and you’re making diy repairs, what’s left to diagnose and troubleshoot are the refrigeration unit and timer. If the timer isn’t electronic and the typical electric clock with electrical contacts for motor and heater circuits, mark the timer and return an hour or more later to see that it turns. Troubleshooting worn electrical contacts would be the next step to check for pitting, preventing good electrical contact with intermittent operation of the heater. Timer and/or contacts may be a one piece part. If not a timer issue then the refrigeration unit may be worn out.

Refrigerators usually have two temperatures, the main refrigerator with around 40F to 50F and the icebox around -15F to 0F. My first guess with intermittent temperatures ranging wildly would be the timer being erratic. I would determine timer function, once or twice a day defrost and monitoring when defrost occurs over several days to be sure the timer isn’t slow from being worn out.
