I have an iPhone 3GS which keeps shutting off and switching back on randomly. I thought this may be a battery issue ie not holding charge, but I have just replaced the battery and it keeps doing the same thing.
It does not appear to matter how much charge is in the phone it will just switch off and then reboot on again.
HELP !!!!!!!!!!

Hello,
Do us a favor and read the model number on the battery to us.
The iphone 3G and 3GS use similar appearing batteries, but vastly different internals. You need to insure the battery you replaced it with is very similar model number to the original (often the last number is off by 1 digit). If it's different anywhere else, you have a 3G battery.
This would be my main guess to the problems you are seeing.

is there any pattern to the turning off? launching apps, playing car games? has it been having any problems with power button?

No, it does not appear to have any pattern. When I changed the battery and switched it on it continually switched on and off for a while and then I recharged it and it seemed to calm it down although still does it. I dont think I have been having problems with power button - is that worth replacing?

No. I think this isn't battery. I'm wondering whether your power button is the culprit. Try disconnecting it from logicboard.. No 5?(square connector). You'll be able to power on via USB but then it should turn on with home after that. See if it improves things.. May just need a cleaning.
