MacBook does not boot

Hi!

My Macbook Air 13” does not boot at all. The screen stays black and there is no sign of life at all. When I plug in the charger, it’s saying that it is charging (led goes orange) but the Macbook still won’t boot. Does anyone know what’s going on? I think it’s motherboard related, but before I order a new one, I want to be sure.

Thanks in advance!

It could possibly be your SMC chipset i have encountered this many times, especially in the Mac Minis and in certain macbook Air models

Thanks for your answer! Is this an easy fix? Or am I better off to replace the motherboard?

better off replacing the whole machine in my opinion it honestly depends on the amount of time and money you would be willing to invest

If you aren’t able to power on your system using these tips, you may have a faulty battery, charger, or DC-In board. To figure out the cause you’ll need to do some troubleshooting or take it in to a repair shop.

Tested it with different chargers and this didn’t work. All the resets are tried but no sign of life. If the charger is in, it should boot no matter if the battery is faulty, right?

@dan0 some devices require a working battery to boot and I wouldn't put it past apple to do this as planned obsolescence

da

That's normally true. In some cases I've seen a bad battery cause power on issues that weren't resolved until a new good battery was installed, but I don't think that's what's going on here.

Alright. Well someone is bringing in a known working motherboard. I'll test and see what happens :)

If you have a faulty charging circuit and the input diode is faulty, it will stop your laptop from turning on as it detects a reverse current flow towards the charger from the battery. Try to remove the back cover and unplug the battery but nothing else and then plug in the charger and see if you can switch it on.

Firstly, you may make some checks, such as indicator light, cable, power connection, display and so on.

Then, try running Disk Utility to fix Mac issues.

Or reset NVRAM/PRAM to have a try.

Yes, the indicator light is on (orange). And can’t run disk utility as it won’t turn on at all.
