Right skin temperature sensor error - CPU fan at high speed

Hi,

The CPU fan on my 2011 27” iMac is running at full speed.

I ran the diagnostics and it gave the error code 4SNS/1/C0000008: TS2p—124 which seems to be the Right Skin Temperature sensor. I fitted a new sensor but the error code is still there. I’ve also checked the socket for the sensor on the motherboard and it’s making contact and isn’t loose.

The problem started when I added an SSD drive so I may have dislodged something in the process. The ODD and HDD fans are operating normally. Is there anything else I could check or is there a way of disabling this sensor permanently?

Soluzione Prescelta

The problem was a broken pin on the left skin sensor connection (not a problem with the right skin sensor as I originally thought).

@danj thanks for you help with this one.

You must be a brit who drives on the wrong side of the road ;-}

Happy you got it working - enjoy!

I am but actually have a left hand drive. More fun when overtaking on the British roads!

A common issue is in the process of disconnecting the sensor you damage the two small inductors L5500 & L5501. Here’s an image of the area:

Thanks. I did have a good look at those under a magnifying glass. They are still securely connected and there is continuity between them and the socket. When you same damaged could this be internal and is there a way of testing them?

da

@Christian Gluntz - You can crack them so it can be hard to tell. There are a few other inductors like these that could have been damaged. You'll need to check them as well. You'll want to get the schematics and board views to walk through them.

Is there an online source for the schematics? Sounds like I might need to get a professional to look at it unless there's something obvious that's loose. I'm pretty sure I didn't knock anything adding the SSD but it has been repaired a few times in the past so something may have been loose already.

@Christian Gluntz

Here's some useful info to search the net for them:

Logic board: 820-2828

Drawing: 051-8442

Project: K62

da

@Christian Gluntz Yep you snapped it off! You also took the pads so you'll need to trace back to a spot you can use

R7462 0.499, 1%, 1/10W, MF 603

You'll need to talk with a component house to find it Mouser
