My display is glitching, vertical bars with horizontal glitch lines.

Hi there iFixers,

I have this problem with my MacBook where my display is showing some weird stuf to the point where the actual content is almost invisible. Here is a video of what I mean.

I tried hooking it up to an external monitor and it works perfectly fine on the other screen. I already tried resetting te NVRAM and all that kind of stuff but with no success.

As for the background story; I bought this MacBook of a friend of mine who told me he plugged in the MacBook, and then heard a pop and saw a little bit of smoke. After this the MacBook didn’t turn on anymore. I looked into the MacBook and saw that C6481 was blown. I replaced it and after that when I turned on the MacBook saw this phenomena occurring.

Now I am wondering where did it go wrong, did I open the MacBook incorrectly and did I damage the screen? Did I damage the GPU by using to much heat? Where should I start to look? I don’t suspect it has something to do with the LCD screen because this looks like a different kind of glitch to me. Correct me if im wrong and try to nudge me into the right direction :)

C6481 is part of the audio circuit PPBUS_G3H_SPKRL very odd for it to go and kill the system to boot.

I can’t see anything you did so far would have damaged the screen. Did you take the logic board fully out? Damaging something in the process.

At this point you clearly the internal display will need replacement as the T-CON board attached to the display is messed up, here’s the needed part:

And here’s the guide to put it in Sostituzione gruppo schermo MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017

I already had this feeling. This T-CON board, is this attached to the LCD screen itself or is it attached to the assembly? In other words, is replacing the LCD only enough to fix this or do i need to replace te complete assembly?

@tomasvdlaan - The T-CON is hardwired to the LCD panel as well as a few other elements within the lid. It is not replaceable on its own.
