It looks like there is a hole through the front part of the case in Step 10. Right above where the front camera and the earpiece meet. What is it? Status LED? Proximity sensor?

there is an infrared emitting device next to the proximity sensor
it's active as soon as the screen light goes on.

the IR emmitter is part of the proximity sensor. Its next to the ambient light sensor. I am trying to figure out the hole next to those...perfectly round that was not on the previous phones.

Ended up tearing the iphone apart and found that they have a new Proximity sensor design in the 4S. It takes up all the space that the proximity sensor and ambient light sensor used in the iphone 4. The Ambient Light sensor is now moved over and that is what uses the little round hole. Interestingly enough they actually painted the window on the white 4S.

The proximity sensor and Ambient light sensor are next to each other and there is an oval window to the world for them. There is another hole right next to them that I am wondering about
