Why does it take so long to charge my new battery?

Finally replaced my original battery on a late 2011 Macbook Pro 13”! The installation was a breeze but I’m finding that it’s taking a really long time for the battery to take a charge when connected to power? I have a fairly new Magsafe charger. Anyone else have the same issue? The replacement battery manufacture date was 5.5 months ago.

The battery is newish, and the devise seems to work so I’d look elsewhere first. Like what? Does your AC receptacle have 120 volts and could the hot neutral be reversed? Not likely but possible. I’d borrow other chargers to compare with the one you’ve got. If that doesn’t help, look up the process to give your battery a “tune up”. It’s something like - run it all the way down to dead and then charge it all the way without using it. Do that twice and see what happens.

Start by performing an SMC reset. It probably won’t help but it’s worth a shot whenever you have issues after installing a battery. Then I would recommend downloading coconutBattery to see how the battery is operating. This will allow you to see the condition of the battery, as well as the rate at which it charges. It may also be the case that your MagSafe board is not passing the correct voltage. You can use a multimeter to read the voltage by correctly using the read-out pins on the MagSafe board.
