Replacing broken logic board

Hi guys, again I need your help.

I need to be certain that logic board [661-4955] will fit my A1260 MacBook Pro 15" 2008, I was trying do research but I'm still not certain. Does anyone know of a site that touches this topic, is there like a chart or something for which parts fit which computer? Thank you!

I have uploaded some photos to help identify the broken board from my MBP, feel free to take a look. Thanks!

I just looked at your photos and saw that it's a 2.5 GHz machine made in 2008. It's still well within the four year limit. Put it back together and get it in!

Well, I've taken the computer to the official Apple dealer/service, but they claim the same as the one before - the computer doesn't turn on, so the USB key test won't work, which in their eyes means that the problem is with the board itself, not the faulty GPU. I'm really at a loss here, does anyone have any experience or heard about a good advice on how to successfully contradict their claim, since it's obvious, the board was damaged due to nVidia chip.

This logic board appears to be one that will work. It would be nice to find a site with interchangeable parts but I haven't run into one yet. Stay with board that come out of the model number. Looks like you can use a 2.2, 2.4, 2.5 or 2.6 board. This model also had Nvidia GPU issues. If you don't mind me trying to get6 you fixed for free, please tell why you think your board is dead. We could also use the last three figures of your serial number.

+ Good accurate answer. Better yet, suggesting there may be free repair/replacement. The LVDS cable and heatsinks are the same. The boards are interchangeable.

Hey mayer, Apple store proclaimed the board dead, I wasn't given an exact problem, but it might me a faulty nVidia GPU. I'm thinking about trying to reflow the chip, but have low expectations. I have done this once before on an HP pavilion computer, but i realize this might be a bit more demanding. I have extracted the board yesterday, but I'm not yet experienced enough to tell what the problem is, by examining the board. Maybe you have any insight on this? Thank you!

If it was the GPU it should have been covered. The Apple store (what type of Apple store) should have tested for this, did you get anything in writing? Also what are the last three letters of your serial number? I wish you had waited before tearing it down.

I got this computer from a friend, so I don't know what exactly was going on @ the Apple store. I was reading through the forums and web pages that the date for claiming the warranty on faulty nVidia GPU has expired in July this year, so I didn't waste my time to open it up and have a look. Basically the computer turns on, fans start to spin but no sound or other signs of life. I have found a board for 150€ right here in town, still in it's original package, so I was thinking of just buying it and give it a go. I would like to try and repair the old one none the less.

The normal dates on the Nvidia issue are 4 years from the date of original purchase. So it's running out on the 2.2 GHz and getting close on the 2.4 GHZ. Go to everymac.com and look up the dates on the machines. Also Apple store managers can give "warranty exceptions", when asked and do so especially for good looking girls ;-) or sometimes you just need to bring one with you if you are a guy so that ---you know. It costs him nothing and you can plead ignorance and that you found out that Apple had pulled the notice off the main page of their Support Page. You would have gotten it in on time if you had known about it. Apple wants long term customers! I get lots done because I've been with them for 32 years.

I just had the same issue happen in September where the board stopped working and they replaced it for free because I informed them of the notice. It happened again 20 days out of my 90 warranty and they said they could do nothing. It would cost me $350 for them to replace it again. Now I am stuck looking for the board for cheap so that I may replace it myself. Let me know if you find a cheap place that I can order the board. I would appreciate it! I love my Mac but Apple really disappointed me this time around.

Hi Sarah,

I found a cheap board on a local online flea market, replaced it and it works. It's really hard to find a cheap board, you'll have to troll ebay for a while before finding it.
