Kenmore Countertop starts running when the door is closed

I have a Kenmore Countertop Microwave Oven (405.73116310) which I bought in December 2016. Now it starts running the moment the door is closed. I can add more seconds to it and then it will run down the clock, will beep, will turn off the light but still the magnetron and fan will continue to run. I checked the door switches and they are working fine (Meaning, they haven’t lost their spring action and the click sounds are fine. They get activativated/deactivated when the door is closed/opened.) Sometimes a gently tap on top fixes the issue which made me think that it can be door switches but they seem to be functioning fine.

Is it a possibility that the spring action and ‘clicks’ appear to be normal and still the door switches are faulty?
If the problem is with the control board or a particular relay in the control board, how do I deduct that?
If the issue is the control board, where can I get a replacement?

Or is it time for me to get another Microwave and call it a day?

Hi,

First check that the interlock switches are operating correctly electrically by disconnecting the power from the microwave, accessing the switches and testing them with an Ohmmeter as the microwave should not continue to operate when the door is open. The interlocks are a safety device which should prevent this from happening.

Be safety aware when working in a microwave oven. The voltage stored in the HV capacitor (>6000V DC) can seriously injure you and it needs to be discharged correctly before commencing any work inside the oven after the case cover has been removed. The voltage can be stored for months even if the power hasn’t been connected to the oven for this length of time.

Unfortunately if a switch is faulty then getting a replacement part may be problematical. The 4 major parts suppliers that I checked don’t have too many parts on hand for this model and none have the switches. You may have to contact them and ask if other same brand microwave interlock switches are compatible with this model.

The switch parts are shown as L03, L04 & L05 (3 switches) on the diagrams but are not listed in the parts list
