MBP internal screen doesn't work. External works but doesn't boot.
I'm really out of solutions because I'm not sure a lot of people had my problem. Whenever I try to boot my MacBook Pro in normal mode the internal screen is black and it doesn't work. If I connect an external display I see the login screen but whenever I enter my password it loads halfway then it shuts down and restarts. Once the password is entered the internal display lits up with a black background. Unfortunately I cannot boot it in normal mode even if the internal display seems to work.
Whn I try to put it in safe mode it I can log in but the same thing happens. The internal display is lit with a black background while the external display shows the normal background of the computer. So the only difference is that when I'm in in safe mode I can log in the computer while in normal mode I cannot.
Questa è una buona domanda?
You’ll need to setup an external bootable drive to isolate out if you have a hardware or software issue. Do you have a boot drive setup? If not you’ll need to find another Mac to set it up. What is you macOS release?

I do have another MB at my friend's house. I'm on the latest build. Cătălina? Not sure what subversion though. Do I need to have the same version set up via the bootable drive? Will it erase all my files too? Also is it possible to set it up from Windows?

The reason for asking was two fold making sure You didn't panic!!! ;-}
As Apple altered macOS with a newer file system (was HFS+ and now APFS). Using an older macOS like Sierra won't let you access the newer APFS file system so you won't see the files on your drive (they are not damaged just not accessible). It would be best using Mojave or Catalina so you don't panic!! ;-}
To be clear: Booting up on another drive with macOS won't effect your internal drive in any way.
But! You don't want MS Windows as that will mess you up! Just like a car which uses diesel you don't want to fill the tank with gasoline! As that will damage your car!
OK, so the second reason I ask was so I could aim you to how to create a bootable OS installer following this guide: How to make your own bootable macOS 10.15 Catalina USB install drive and how to use your startup keys to boot up under it by pressing the Option (⌥) key
Reference: Mac startup key combinations
Let us know how it goes - Good luck!
And again DON'T PANIC!!

Is the version I'm installing important? For e.g. my friend has a MB air. Would it be a problem or it's the same file no matter what the version of the computer is.

The external boot drive can have anything on it that your system can support OS-X Yosemite (10.10.x) or newer. Just don't attempt to access your internal drive.
We only eat to see if you can boot up cleanly on the external. If you had the correct macOS on the external then we could use Disk Utility to check your drive. Which won't be possible with the older OS releases.
Apple does expire older OS's so trying to create a boot drive from the old installer can fail. Apple reissued updated installers from El Capitan and newer. Here's a bit more on what happened: If you've got an old macOS install image, it will probably stop working today
Once you know what your friends OS version is let me know so I can aim you to the updated OS installer you'll need.
