The Acer Aspire 5740-5780 is a decently old Acer laptop from pre-2011. It is very similar to the Acer Aspire 5740/5740D/5740G models and although these guides haven't been tested with those models they will likely work for them as well.

Laptop won't boot, no boot logo, screen does not show anything.

Hello, recently I bought a charger for my acer aspire 5740, but when I power it on it does not show anything on the screen, fans are working, and the harddrive is running, but it does not show anything on the screen, not even the acer logo whe it boots up, the screen is not broken as it worked last night.

The ram might be the problem since I put a 4gb ram stick and a 1gb ram stick that I salvaged from an old Macbook.

Try one RAM module at a time and see if either one works on its own.
