Black 13” MBP retina screen!?

Just a few days ago, the screen on my 13” Retina MBP went black, except for the menu bar at the top. Mind you the bottom part of that is a little fuzzy. HDMI is still working.

What is broken, the vcu, the screen, a lose contact ?

Thank you and greetings from Belgium

it seems I no longer can see the menu bar either

Not good ;-{

To be sure you’ll want to try an external monitor via the Thunderbolt port. But I fear your logic board is toast! And I also think your display is bad as well!

Did you get your system wet at some point?

I don’t have a display running from a thunderbolt port, nor the adapters to use an older one. I’ll try to get this tested ASAP.

Wet? No, that didn’t happen.

If it can still drive the HDMI port, how can the motherboard be toast or did you refer to the GPU section of it.

Am I to assume that the actual GPU and HDMI video signals are separate units?

Thank you.

OK to clarify you are running an external display via the HDMI port? If you are and the display shows your desktop and you can run your apps then you've isolated out the issue as only needing a new display assembly!

If the external display shows what your internal is showing (the pcitures you've posted here) then the logic board is bad.

If the external is black or just while then that took tells me the logic board is bad and will need replacing.

Your system only has one GPU which is part of the CPU chip Intel Iris 5100 But what makes this complicated is number of outputs the video signal can exit which is quite complex using MUX logic.

As well as the two modes the external display can run either mirroring the internal or extending your desktop!

The reason I wanted you to try the thunderbolt port was to reduce the complexity of the externals display output. But using a HDMI external is also useful
