I was replacing the battery... but I knocked off 1 of 2 silver circles

Block Image

I was replacing the battery, following the ifixit guide...

I was Upto step 9 and

but I knocked off 1 of 2 silver metal circles just above battery connector in the middle.

what do these 2 metal circles do?

should I super glue it back on?

or does this metal component need more attention (like a soldering iron)?

what do I need to do?

@o07bond - OK, you broken off the mounting studs. Let's get a pic of yours so we have a better idea how they came off. Focus on the mate surfaces of the studs and the logic board location.

It looks like basically a nut that you can put a screw into it.

Update (05/25/2020)

It will need to be soldered down to secure it.

It's a logic board standoff (stud). It offers a threaded mount point to anchor something, in this case a metal cover.

@danj

Thanks the replies Dan - it definitely has threads inside of it :)

I think the metal shield goes over it

In terms of getting it to stick back down...?

You will need to get some acetone to clean off the surfaces and then carefully screw in the screw back into the plate and the stud so the plate sits correctly. then carefully screw in the other screw which holds the plate to the second stud. Now ever so carefully lift the edge of the plate just enough (hairline) so you can drip a drop of Cyanoacrylate glue (a.k.a Krazy Glue)

There is no solder used here.
