Home does not work when installed but will work if taken out of screen
I have repaired many iPhones and several iPhone 8+ but have never came across this situation before. I connected the home button as normal, and tested the phone out, everything work except the home button. long story short I pulled the home button out of the screen and connected it to the cable as it would be in the phone, just out of the screen, hanging out the side of the phone. turned the phone on and the home button works as it should. I unhooked it and put it back as it is supposed to be in the screen and again it will not work. It only woks if I take it out of the screen and connect it letting it hang outside of the phone. I also tested an after market home button and the same thing happens, it will not work when installed in the screen but it will while hanging out of the screen to the side. Any ideas on what could be happening here?

Most likely the flex on your home button assembly. Check under magnification for a tiny tear.

I have looked it over several times with magnification and there are not tears. The same happens with a new home button also.

Typically there is a plastic spacer between the bracket and the screw that holds the home button in place - I'm thinking there is a grounding issue related to a damaged bracket or wrong type of screw. Try the functionality with the home button in place but without the retaining bracket

Yes I tried it with and with out the bracket, it was still the same results.
