Why does my MacBook "keep shutting off due to a problem"

I have a mid 2010 macbook pro last 4 of the serial number is GAGV

While doing anything from web browsing to working in Microsoft office the computer for no rhyme or reason shuts off then back on by itself. When it reboots the fans get really loud and the bottom of the computer starts to get very warm and when the screen turns back on it prompts me to log in. As soon as I log in it will give me a screen that says “your computer shut down due to a problem” and gives me the option to ignore or report. It's starting to happen more frequently now.

The os is a 10.13.6 high sierra.

You encountered an OS crash! This could be due to either hardware where your systems RAM or drive has an issue or the OS or applications have a failure.

You'll need to locate the crash report. Open the app Console, click on the 'Error and Faults' locate the last report export it to a PDF and post it here for us to see Aggiungere immagini ad una domanda If you get the condition again you can just save the repair then.

Yes, Jack thats also a strong possibility in this series! Getting the crash report will help nail that down.

No a report won’t point out a capacitor on the board what he’s describing is clearly c9560

jackbramhall - Here's the tell-tail signs of the cap issue 'GPUPanic' which we can see in the crash report.

@dwtjr3 - jackbramhall guess was it! You have the proof! This is repairable. But you likely don’t have the needed tools to do it. Where are you located nearest city, maybe we can aim you to someone near who can help.

Here’s the process where Louis Rossmann walks through the replacement of the capacitor: Macbook Pro 2010 kernel panic GPU issue repair: SOLVED! C9560 and here’s the part C9560

Give these folks a try Computer Doctor while they are a bit further away, but they have the skills to tools needed to fix your system. When you go show them this dialog!

Doug what are you going after for a degree?

Do let us know how it goes, don't forget the score the answer and accept it (give jack a score too!)
