Can I still remove enterprise enrollment in 2020?

I bought this Chromebook for school, in the contract it said that i would keep the Chromebook when I’m done with school or changed school. but here is the problem I did get too keep the Chromebook, but its is still enterprise enrolled :(.

So my question is if the removing the battery to circumvent the dev-mode block still works in 2020? That is enable dev-mode and then remove battery end plug in DC power so that it restarts.

It was *never* possible - the only thing that worked on “CR-48” ones was changing the S/N, but the management came back if it reverted back to the original number. The reason Chromebooks are popular with the “One Chromebook per child” era of education is the management for a reason. While it’s annoying, appreciate it. Back when I went to school, you didn’t get a laptop. Now everyone has to take the Chromebooks because “equality”. That said, I’d carry my real notebook and keep the Chromebook for the times you need it (other than someone crying my machine is too nice in comparison). I went into it in detail here years ago.

The management is tied to the serial number of the Chromebook, so no it cannot be bypassed. In your case, you may need to wait until you graduate before they remove it. The problem is there may be a hidden technicality where it has to have an enterprise enrollment lock attached to it due to some school district policy, or specific requirement forcing it. If I was in your position (especially since your parents probably paid for it!) I'd tell them this:

  • Shove the Chromebook where the sun doesn’t shine.
  • If you are going to force this on me, I expect there to be zero management, at all. I had to pay for it, so you do not get to lock it down.
  • (Dell only) Give me the ownership information so I can transfer it under my name. You lost ownership title once you made me pay retail/CDW rate and didn’t make it a loaner.

At this point, you need to remember to hold them to their part of the deal if you bought it — DO NOT RELY ON YOUR PARENTS! They will not understand the problem and you will have a useless Chromebook you paid for.

Is there a way to change the serial number?

da

No and yes.... It requires a vast amount or resource power and intellectual coding....

JK.. There is no way around the enterprise system.... what school district are you in...

da

And I am learning java so I can try to code my way

da

There is a way around the Enterprice Enrollment, namely power washing your chromebook, and setting it up for your personal use.

da

It's possible, I have done it.

As far as I know, this hasn’t worked for a while. I have the exact same Chromebook and have for years, and this doesn’t work. (I literally created the device page) If you take it to your schools IT, they can probably unenroll it. Depending on how your school/state works, it may be the school district that you need to contact. It seems odd that you bought it and it’s enterprise enrolled though.

  1. Press esc + refresh + power (note: refresh is the 4th key from the left on the Chromebook. It should be the swirly arrow.)
  2. Press ctrl + d.
  3. Press space (the spacebar) or on some Chromebooks enter (the enter key) Note: This will put you in developer mode, let your Chromebook load up everything and do NOT turn it off yourself. Your Chromebook will restart and then start initiating dev mode, that will put you off of the domain.

In that case what i got from google is this:https://support.google.com/chromebook/an...

Eventually, if you use the entire storage, all of the old data will be overwritten and will cease to exist.

da

find the school and ask them to remove management. If they installed it.There IS a way to remove it and i heard its the admin login

(Welp here’s another 20 paragraph essay) Sadly it can’t be done, because the device’s serial number is the main culprit it’s possible to change and break the enterprise enrollment but it requires alot of heavy skills. Or you can CONTACT YOU’RE DISTRICT’S IT DEPARTMENT TO UNTIE THE CHROMEBOOK.

There could be a possible answer to it without contacting district if allowed maybe. This model tho unfortunately has a soldered storage drive in the motherboard itself. Meaning some cases you are able to unenroll with a removable storage device. Kinda like installing a new windows 10 kind of thing, for simple English terms.

Only solution I have found so far physically is purchase a motherboard swap but at that point if you gonna do that just buy a new laptop. Their really cheap chromebooks and I personally don’t like them.

I have tried all other solutions out there and the best way to fix is to throw it in trash, at the teachers face or email the school to unenroll if possible. I still think its possible maybe a special software to contact a chromebook to a computer to remove it eternally but I guess not. I’m still personally gonna look into this so I can watch twitch or youtube on it.

I logged into my own email by starting to use etc + restart + power (it will also delete your chromebook data be aware) then doing ctrl d, and after it says its blocked go back and when you enable the internet and it says enterprice enrollment , disable your internet and then in the bottom left it will say “use as personal chromebook” press that and it will ask for your internet, after enabling it will go to the sign in page with the enrollment, instead press other sign in, and enter your own mail. After that it will enroll it in that mail and your set to go in your own mail.
