Phone had a brief tour in the washing machine while water was being filled… Already got a new phone, but was wondering if I could get the damaged phone back to life.
Dissembled the phone, saw that the battery was swollen. Put in a replacement battery, won’t charge. What are the next steps that I could try?

These boards are not like the previous ones they are sandwiched together with solder balls connecting the top and bottom layer.
The only other steps left if you haven’t got the diagnostic and repair equipment would be to remove the board from its housing and soak the board in Isopropyl alcohol. Replace the dock connector and hope for the best.
