Use iMac 27" (Late 2012) 2546 internals in a PC case

Hi,

I have a iMac 27” (Late 2012) model, but screen cracked. Don’t want to invest in the whole LCD unit replacement which can’t be reused down the road. So I want take the internals out and put it in a separate PC case, and connect it to a separate monitor.

I went online and did some research and found that, this might be possible, but the main issue is the LCD thermal sensor. I need to find a way to either disable it or trick it into thinking that the LCD thermal is ok. Otherwise, the system would put the fan to max speed and throttle the CPU severely to prevent overheating. Is there any suggestion to crack this issue?

Thanks

@goldenbear let's see if we can help you. The sensor is really nothing more than a transistor that measure this. We would need your board to see if it can be bypassed

@goldenbear you should be able to bypass the sensor by connecting/soldering the corresponding pins via a ~1K ohm resistor across the pins. That should “fool” your motherboard into believing that the temp is normal. You could most likely do this on your temp sensor cable. Post some good pictures of those parts so we can hopefully guide you further

For the amount of effort and costs I would just cover the display with tape so it doesn’t break anymore and just plug in an external monitor.

Frankly, the cost of even the cheapest display would be cheaper than all the pieces needed to convert the system into a PC case and still have access to the ports.

As an example: Grade-C - 27” iMac Display Assembly (12/13) Apple P/N 661-7169, LG ID LM270WQ1 (SD)(F1) $315 USD

Hi. You can download Macs Fan Control app to adjust the fan speed yourself. https://www.crystalidea.com/macs-fan-con...
