The NAND is tied to the CPU, Baseband and some other IC’s. You would need to put the NAND back in the same board and get it to boot to retrieve data. You cannot retrieve data by extracting it from the NAND.

The state the NANDS  in it would be extremely difficult and time consuming but I wouldn’t say it is impossible.

What are the pads on the logic board like?

It was terrible, the motherboard's been hammer'd into a very crappy status.

But let me try if I can take photos of it.

Hey Chris, I just uploaded the photos for the board.

May you please take a look and provide your feedback accordingly?

da

It’s hard to see on the photos which pads have been removed. The pads that get removed are usually stuck on the IC or the board making it look like both pads are missing.

Personally I would not take on a job like this again as I am currently doing one similar to yours. I have been working on the nand for about 20 hours and am only half way there. All the pads have to be rebuilt and connected with jumper wires. If you succeed with that then the next task would be getting your phone to boot. With it bent like it is you are going to defiantly run into more problems.

As I said it is not impossible to get your data but it might be impossible to find someone willing to try. I would start by getting some online quotes, send the photos to them. Maybe you could find a microsolderer that could just rebuild the pads for you. Then you could send it somewhere for data recovery.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply again. To find a microsolderer might be even easier since I lived in a major city in China. I may take your advise and to see if the pads can be rebuilt.

Somehow, one mobile phone fix store that I'm familiar with just mentioned, from the crack line on the NAND chip, the NAND might be highly possibly physically damaged. In this case, it is impossible to recover the data, even the Pad can be rebuilt.

So I'd like to hear your advanced advice here that, per your experience, how's the states of the NAND? How much does the crack line on the NAND matter to the data recovery of the phone?

Thank you very much.

da

To be honest Ray I didn’t take much notice of the crack until you brought it up now. I was only focused on the pads. It would be a game changer if it is not just the coating that is cracked. You would need to rebuild the pads and put it into a NAND programmer and see if it reads it before you went any further.

Hi Ray

This is a NAND Chip, it looks quite bad, even for the soldering contact.

What happened actually?

At the moment... i know there are hacks to upgrade higher capacity of memory... but this, most prob at this time is not possible, encrypted too

Hi Augustine, thank you very much for the reply.

The iPhone itself had been smashed to craps, but now the owner wants to save the data.

Encryption is the second topic.

The priority is to save the data...

If it's not possible to recover now, when? Or never?

da

Never. Without the exact same phone CPU, it is NEVER possible to decrypt any data. What’s the use of data if nobody can understand it?

da

Yep! A useless chip now as you don't have access to the encryption key which is held in the other chips in the original phone.
