Crack in the bezel of my MacBook- what should I do?

Today I opened my MacBook just to see that there’s a crack in it. The crack stretches upward, just touching the screen (this is hard to see) and I don’t know what to do. I don’t have applecare and it’s not really something I’d like to spend upwards of a hundred dollars on. Can I close my MacBook? What should I do? (Note- I’ve never closed it especially hard, dropped it, carried it by the screen, closed it with something in it, etc)

Ouch! You damaged the chin plate. For now place some tape over it so the glass shards don’t fall out and it will help you in removing it to replace it. This was likely caused by something caught between the keyboard and the lid it could be as simple as a paperclip!

You do need to be careful as just under it is the ribbon cables which interconnect to the logic board below. Here is the part 13” 2016 ~ 2019 Retina Chin Plate You’ll also need Tesa 61395 Tape - Card ''We don’t have a 13” guide but this guide is exactly the same MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2017 Replace LOGO Baffle on the screen,替换屏幕底部LOGO挡板 Replacement

Thank you so much! I know nothing about laptops so this will certainly be a challenge. However, I had left my house before I got the answer and closed the laptop. There’s no tape on the area and I’m still not home. Will it be okay?

I can't answer that - The more you bounce the system around will loosen the chips. Basically, you want to make sure the small (sub mm) chips don't get into the keyboard keys as they can jam them up and of course cut your fingers!

Maybe someone can offer some tape to you, you don't need anything special here. But once you put it on don't pull it off as you could pull pieces off which could expose things inside to damage.

Alright, it’s on a steady surface so I’m not too worried. Thank you for all of your help! You’re a saint.
