Domanda Chiusa

Just finished changing my optical drive and now the screen is dim.

I just replaced the DVD drive in my 12" PowerBook G4 aluminum. Now my screen is extremely dim...it was working fine before I replaced the drive. It seems like the backlight is not working from reading posts on this board. Is there a particular cable that may be pinched? How can I test for this?

Installing a new optical drive in a PB 12" is not an easy job cause you have to take out the logic board from the case to reach the lower optical drive bracket. Reassembling the machine is the hard part because of the internal wiring passing up or down the internal metal frame in specifics locations. It easy to put pressure on a cable and pinch it if it doesn't go thru it's specific route. That's why you should double check the inverter cable connection to the logic board.

Anyone who's working inside the PB 12" for the first time and need to remove the logic board should take high resolution picts of each step of the take apart procedure cause for sure you'll need to watch the picts when reassembling.

Just to check, make sure your brightness it set high and that the battery isn't just low.

The cable for the backlight is the inverter cable, these quite often go bad and cause no backlight, I suggest replacing this first. If that doesn't work I would replace the actual display.
