It still wouldn't work, so I tried to purge the air

I have a YT-4000 riding mower and I did change the transmission oil by making my own plugs, draining and refilling the oil. It still wouldn't work, so I tried to purge the air. Not sure I am doing it right.

My YT-4000 does not have a neutral position. It is either in forward mode or reverse mode. I did disengage the transmission to Transport and slowly disengaged the clutch/brake, but my motion control lever is either on or in reverse. I cannot put it into "full forward position". I did repeat the procedure in Forward, and then in Reverse mode, and then turned off the engine, then placed the Freewheel position into the engaged position and tried the next steps. Nothing happened. The machine will still not go forward or backwards.

I suspect I haven't purged the air yet, but I am not sure I am doing it right. Help! The grass is getting long!

@meyerdbv we need to find out what type of transaxle your mower has. See if you can find any marks, labels, tages etc. on it. Also post some good pictures of it since that sometimes can help to identify what make that is.

@oldturkey03 My model number is 917.28856 Automatic Transmission Riding Lawn Tractor. I tried to upload a picture but couldn't get it to work. Perhaps the model number will suffice. I followed my Owner's manual for purging again today. Mine says, depress the forward drive pedal for 5 seconds.... This works for me. I did this process with forward and reverse 3 times in the disengaged freewheel position, and then tried to get it to move the 5 feet forward in the Engaged position but it would only move about 6" forward and none in reverse. Tried the whole process over again and it didn't get any better. Btw, I did try to mow the lawn after I changed the transmission oil without purging it and it worked "ok." But got back from vacation and it won't move at all. Any ideas?

@meyerdbv let me see if I can find out what transaxle this is. My suspicion is a Husqvarna....;)

@oldturkey03 Thanks for investigating. But, regardless of the transaxle manufacturer, I am "following the purging directions" found in the Owner's Manual, but it's not working. I'm not the kind of guy that is willing to swap out the tranny, so are you suspecting I may need to get another tractor? Btw, I went out again tonight and went through the proper purging process, hoping for some miracle to occur. It might have moved another 3" but that's about all. Oh well, let me know what you find. And thanks so much!

@meyerdbv oh no Sir! I am not one to ever advocate buying new stuff! I am all for tearing stuff down and fixing it. I am looking for the right manual to investigate what else could be going on and just trying to figure this out.

@meydbv here is the flowchart for your transaxle. It’s pretty much just the basics for now to troubleshoot the no movement issue

Take a look on here to see if you would want to tackle a repair of it. This is what the beast looks like disassembled
