no chime, fan auto start spinning slow without pressing power button

Hey guys, my friends just gave me this macbook pro, when i plug in the charger, fan automatically start spinning slowly, no chime, i havnt even tapped the power button, and when i try to shut it down by pressing the power button for 10 seconds, its dosent turn off (fan still keep spinning)

Only way i could get a response from the macbook pro, is if i press the power button (located at the keyboard) and THEN plug in the magsafe 2, and keep pressing the power button, after about 5 seconds fan start spinning extremely fast and theres a chime, no display though, and if i hold the power button it shuts off…tried resetting SMC, PRAM already to no avail…

one odd thing to notice is, when i unplug the battery, and plug the magsafe 2, fans dont spin at all, and if i press the power button, i get no response from it as well…

i usually do small repairs like simple LCD or logic board swapping, sometimes, actually most of the times swapping RAM or Processor fixes the laptop, but ram and cpu is built in in the model….tried removing every non-essential thing as well (SSD, WIFI CARD), Is the motherboard shot to !&&*?, Thanks for reading, im confused as what to do now!

Good question that deserves upvoting for once :) It seems you’ve done a great troubleshooting on your own there, I believe you’ve done all that was possible to rule out everything besides the logic board that seems undoubtedly your faulty part. It’s either an SMC or a charging/main power line issue what you have there. It’s still a valuable Mac and would be probably worth a logic board repair or replacing. Just take in consideration that further faulty parts may emerge afterwords, not knowing the Mac history and without a known good logic board that has to be taken in consideration too.

Im really interested in learning new things, especially down to the component, if you would be kind enough to share some troubleshooting tips id be really grateful..:),, basically i told my friend that replacing the logic board was the only thing left as he’ve already checked with a professional, and the fee for repairing he got quoted was ooo so high, so he allowed me to tinker with it myself..

Troubleshooting tips were in my answer already, but if you couldn't get them it means that probably between you and the ability to repair your board there will be years study and practice on logic board repairs and I obviously can't fill that gap with an answer to a question :)

I got the 'It’s either an SMC or a charging/main power line issue what you have there" part, but maybe some specifics?, like with IC to check?, but anyway, you taking time to answer even that was really helpful...:), God bless you!

Google is your friend, search for Macbook SMC repair and charging circuit repair and you'll find tons of material including videos of repairs performed. That will give enough info to start with.

has anyone found the fix for this issue yet ?
