Hi, i attempted to replace my iphone 7 battery. I have put the phone back together and the iphone home button does not work at all. when the phone is powered on a notification prompts “touch id, unable to activate touch id on this iphone"

It is my own device. i have noticed on closer inspection that . the top ribbon cable which i assumed connected the front facing camera to the motherboard has slightly torn. hence the earpiece, front facing camera are not working.
could i assume this cable is also, linked with the home button?
i have attempted to circle the ribbon i amreferring to.

That cable is only for the items located on the top of the screen (proximity sensor, ear speaker, etc). The home button joins the ribbon cables that plug in near the battery. The cable could be damaged between the plug on the home button and the motherboard which you could determine by using a different screen. Generally if you are getting no functionality from the button it has been damage somewhere on the home button flex cable.

Thanks for the comforting reply lol. I was starting to stress after discovering the lame and restricted design of the home button being paired with the motherboard.
when I sidetracked and realised that the lcd cable isnt directly connected to the home button but it has a additional connection in between.
So i will fiddle with the cable connection from the screen side and then aim to replace screen if I have no luck.
thanks for your swift responses and help.
i will post back, to check in on my results.
