Why are the categories named after EMC Version here?

Just wondering, because I always have to look up the EMC Version on Mactracker instead of staying on your page. Other sections use the names of the devices, like “iMac Mid 2010”…

Thanks (ifixit is great, btw. without you I wouldnt repair anything I guess)

Ah … Why is there differences in the titles?

Apple hasn’t been consistent in how they define models from a construction perspective. Think it like this you would assume the sequence would be straight forward A, B, C, D and onwards. But Apple has a few side models A, B1, B2, C, D … To add to this some systems came out later! A, B1, C, B2 … You can see this if you go through the EveryMac - iMac systems list

I still dont get the difference to other Mac models like the 15 inch Retina MacBook Pros. They could also be named EMC 3215, 3162, 3072 and so on but they are listed as “MacBook Pro 15 Touch Bar 2018”, “MacBook Pro 15 Touch Bar 2017”, “MacBook Pro 15 Touch Bar Late 2016” as I would also prefer it with the iMacs. Should be possible, is still correct and exact and is lots easier to handle than the EMC Numbers – but that’s only my opinion.

I guess you missed the point its not that simple as the construction defines the identification. The MacBook Pro's are better organized, the iMac's are more confused.

Yes, actually I missed that. I get it now. There is the Late 2009 iMac Generation which actually has two EMC numbers.

But wait, there is also the 15 inch 2015 MBP with two EMC numbers and the 15 inch Mid 2014, and the 15 inch Late 2013 as well, and the 15 inch Early 2011. So It seems it is exactly the other way around, the MBP line seems to be more messed up than the iMac line.

Neither one is perfect for sure ;-}
