Re-Installing Mac OS from USB, possible?

Hi there,

Is there anyway of re-installing Mac OS from the USB?

I’m just getting stuck at the please connect the power adapter and with these little delightful things only having a single USB-C port, it’s proving a bit of an issue.

Anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks

Andy

Didn’t get exactly what’s the problem you have, but the answer to your question is yes, you can surely install the OS from a Usb stick. Having just the USB-C port you’ll likely need an adapter or a USB-C stick. As alternative you can reinstall the OS from the internet booting into the recovery partition if it’s still working. You’ll need to press command+R at boot.

Yes, I'm fully aware of both those points.

Maybe I should be a little clearer.

1. I've got Mac OS 10.14 on a USB Stick.

2. Held down alt, booted from said "USB"

3. Reformatted SSD

4. Went to re-install Mac OS.

5. Choose the intended Drive.

6. Message "To Install Mac OS please connect the power source"

7. Ok... where do I connect the power source as there is only the one USB-C Port currently being used to boot from.

Yes I agree. Internet Recovery is my only option, however that will re-install 10.10 and not give me a clean re-install of OS X 10.14.

So my question is, is there a work around to by-pass having to connect the power adaprter and a fully charged battery will hold enough charge to see the installation through.

@andy37429 A small Usb-C dock for the cost 10/15$ normally includes power feed, Usb3 and Hdmi adapters would solve your problem but you'd need to buy one, which depending where you live might be not that handy. Not sure if the install software would allow installing the OS without mains if it finds a fully charged battery that would be more than sufficient to go through the full install with your machine.
