My screen is swelling. What is it/should I do?
There is a swell in the central left side of my phone
Is it the battery and do I need to do anything?

As others have stated, this is caused by the battery swelling. While others have said that the battery can burst into flames, as long as you don’t do anything intentional to puncture the battery, you should be safe. With that said, take it with a grain of salt. A swelling battery is dangerous so it’s not something you want to play around with. Also as stated, the swelling will put pressure on areas of the logic board and the screen that can cause permanent damage. Keep the phone off and do not charge it as this will only make the problem worse. The swelling battery is likely due to the charge circuitry on the battery failing allowing the battery to overcharge. After a replacement battery and possibly a new screen if there is any damage to it, you will be as good as new.

Yes, it's dangerous; not only is there a fire hazard, but the physical displacement can break the boards and display. Replace ASAP.
This happened with my iPhone 5. I don't know why I kept using it. The screen would have weird marks whenever I as little as lightly squeezed the body or screen.
