Want to upgrade blade SSD with larger drive and break the Fusion Drive

I just need your help for the same matter.

I have a Mid 2017 21.5” iMac 4k retina system, with a 3.4 GHz i5 - A1418/EMC 3069

It’s equipped with a Fusion Drive made by a standard HDD + blade SSD (custom Samsung 32GB, MZ-KNZ0320/A02, SSPHOTON 655-1991A, 89x33mm 3.5"x1.3", PCIe v2.0 x4),

I followed your great guide to almost complete disassembly the iMac to substitute the RAM and the 2.5” HDD with a 2.5” SSD drive

Now I would like to upgrade the blade SSD, as well as break the Fusion Drive of course, leaving it as a separate drive and to increase its size to at least 240GB in order to install exclusively the system, while I use the "main" SSD (that one just put in) only for the apps and data.

It seems that Aura Pro X SSD should be the right solution but I do not find my iMac model in the list of compatibility.

Please help me understnad which model/type/characteristic of blade SSD I need to find, since the matter is very confused.

I followed your indication, finding a 500GB SSD. No need to split the fusion drive since I substitute le standard HD with the great CRUCIAL MX 500 1TB. With also 32GB memory added I can say that “it is another planet”. I can also confirm that after one month the temperature inside is stable. After three-four days almost always one, the temperature il 54°C and fun 1200rpm, so there is no need to buy the temperature sensor.

OWC has not qualified their SSD in any of the iMac’s which is why you don’t see it listed. The reason they don’t is the complexity in installing the SSD in the newer thin series.

Not to fear! You still can install a blade SSD. Review this great guide The Ultimate Guide to Apple’s Proprietary SSDs. Here’s the SSD you’ll want Samsung SSPOLARIS 256 GB blade SSD
