Touch ID not working after screen replacement (home button works fine)

Hey guys,

So i have a weird problem, i have a 6s that that had already a aftermarket screen, everything was working (inc Touch ID), but the LCD start to had issues so i had to replace it, now the problem is, i lost Touch ID but the weird part is:

- If i use old (bad lcd) touch id works

- If i try a new lcd Touch ID don’t work

- If i use the new LCD on a different 6s, the Touch Id of that different 6s works fine

I already tried to restore via iTunes but no success, any idea what might be''?

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Checked the connectors? If the old screen works but new ones do not, it can be a connection damage. Make sure that the touch ID connector is not damaged or that some contact / connection may be missing. It's strange.

Hey Oscar, i don't have a way to check if connectors are fine, but its strange because old screen works fine, and new screen on a different 6s works fine too :/

this has happened to me before , there is i think a youtube video to fix it

it has something to do with the the new screen and old screen, is the screen you got apple certified?

Update (01/23/2019)

there you go its the screen it needs to be apple certified. just make sure its certified and there are no problems with connections if that doesnt fix the issue its a software issue

Hi Brayden. How could it be? Bought in Apple Store?

No its not apple certified, but its weird like how te new screen don't work on this phone and work on a different 6s? I mean, different 6s with same screen touch id works, but new screen on the old 6s (with original button) the Touch ID don't work.

Although the touch ID works on another phone with the new screen, I’d still try another screen. The cable that connects the home button has different traces for home button and touch ID functionality. Im not sure why it works on one phone, but not the other. However, my experience has always been that using another screen fixes the issue.

Hi Ricardo,

Similar to what Edmund has said the touch ID works off the connector that the home button clips into however as yours is a 6s your connector will be on a mental shield which is adhered to the LCD. It is quite common that these connectors are faulty particularly with copy screens.

The good news is that this is easily fixed. You can carefully remove the mental shield from the old screen and then place this on the new screen. You will find that the backlight clear sheets may start to lift up with the shield so use something plactic (not sharp) to keep these in place so that you are only lifting the metal shield (the shield is shinny on the reverse side)

As you know the touch ID works on the old screen this should definately resolve the issue. If you need more assistance give me a shout and i’ll see if I can get a video uploaded or some pictures.

The photo I gave attached gives you an idea of the shield Im refering to. Its obviously not the one that simply screws off when dissembling the screen.

Hope this helps.
