Sony KDL-46XBR2 Green Vertical Line (T-Con Board?)

Hi — I have a Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR2 TV that has been displaying a green vertical line down the left-center of the screen. While the line doesn’t prevent viewing it is annoying and I would like to get it fixed. After some research, I understand that this is a symptom of a bad t-con board. So, I hopped on the Interwebs and order a “refurbished” one from a reputable Web site. The T-Con Board number is 460HSC6LV1.5. Problem is, when that “refurbished” board was installed the TV powers on (indicated by green light and lite Sony emblem around bezel), but I got no picture at all. I called the company and they issued a replacement. But, the replacement has the same issue - TV powers on, but I get no picture at all. Could it be two boards are bad or is there something else at play here? Essentially, to install, I just replaced the board with the “refurbished” one. Is there a step that I’m missing?

(Image below shows the line running along the right-side of the menu. It’s one pixel wide.)

I have the same model TV and a suspected bad Tcon. I opened the back and it looks like the only way to get to the board is to pretty much dissasemble the entire chassis and remove all the other boards. Im looking for a dissasembly guide just for the tcon. Any suggestions?

@Scott if your issue is a single line, it wont be the T-con board. Download the service manual from here It'll show you the disassembly.

Hi my name is Andrea, I have a Sony Bravia KDL-52NS800 “2006” model! It just started having vertical lines throughout the screen. It still has a picture and the sound. Please help if you could?

markfredriksen  re-install your old T-con board and let us know what that does. I have had issues were revised boards did not work the way they should. Your TV has two versions of the T-con board. One is part number LJ94-01448D the other is LJ94-01448E . Make sure that you have the right one for your TV (there should be a sticker on the R side of the T-con board . Also, tell us more about the green line. If this is a thin (one pixel wide or so)line it is usually a TAB error and not a T-con board error. Post some pictures of your boards with your question so that we can see what you see. Aggiungere immagini ad una domanda

Update (12/17/2018)

markfredriksen post some good pictures of your old T-con board. that way we can check on it for you. A TAB error occurs where the fine ribbon cables actually enter the LCD panel. It is bonded (glued ) onto the contacts to the LCD. This bond may have failed. Push at those cables right above the line and see if it makes a difference. If so you could try to fix it by using some tape to provide some down pressure on the cable.

Hi, oldturkey, and thanks for replying so quickly. Prior to ordering the replacement board, I opened the TV to get the model number off the old board. All the old board displays for a model is 460HSC6LV1.5. How would I know if that’s the part number LJ94-01448D or the LJ94-01448E?

When the old board is put back into the TV, the same green line appears. I should elaborate on the line - it’s a 1-pixel wide green vertical line that runs a little left of center on the TV. What is a TAB error you refer to and how is that fixed?

Hi, oldturkey --

I attached two new images. The first shows the TV with the 1px-wide vertical line running along the right side of the menu. It stretches from the top of the TV to the bottom. The second image is of the T-CON board.

I'm not sure how to gain access to the ribbon cables. Is there an easy way to gain access? Removing the rear cover doesn't give you immediate access and I'm afraid it's under multiple layers of electronics.

markfredriksen your T-con board is a LJ94-01448Em. Make sure that yor repalcement is the same board. Sorry, but there is not easy way to get to the ribbon cables. You can try and exert some pressure by reaching behind the bezel or on the bezel to see if it removes that line.

oldturkey -- How were you able to determine that the board was a LJ94-01448Em and not the "D" version?

Hi, oldturkey -- the two boards are identical, with exception to the last few numbers in that "identifier" sticker. I'm attaching a photo of the new board...

If you have a green/amber flashing light and no picture at all after installing the refurbished board it means you have to update the firmware because the main board isn’t recognizing the screen. This is easier said than done when you can’t see any menus on the screen so look up instructions on how to do this by USB and it needs to be done with the new board installed.

1) You may need to factory reset (hold down Vol- and power switches on the TV and then plug into power, release buttons when you see the green LED).

2) It will take hours because the file is large, do not get impatient and turn it off at the wall because you think nothing is happening.

3) You may need to try it a couple of times. First turning it on at the wall and then inserting USB and then try power on with USB inserted. Or Factory reset and add USB or Factory reset with USB in. I can’t recall which worked for me so try them in turn and each time leave it for hours or overnight. Eventually you will come back to a rebooted TV!
