The console only works when the back is off

I recently replaced the screen on my 2DS XL and everything went perfectly up until the point that I put the console’s back back on. I did a lot of testing (within my abilities) and it turns on and functions without a problem when the back is off, but as soon as I put the back on a little (especially near the hinge) it just pops and shuts down/won’t turn on.

I’m guessing that the case is making a short somehow but I don’t know how this is possible given that it’s kind of designed not to. Has anyone had a similar case/any tips on what might be happening here?
