Notebook goes to sleep because of low battery while pluged in

Hi! I have a Levnovo Ideapad 700 and lately it started to go to sleep randomly, it happens a few times a day. The event viewer says it’s because of battery (see image, sorry that it’s in Spanish but in general it says “Description: The system is entering sleep. Sleep Reason: Battery), but the thing is that the notebook is plugged in with 100% battery most of the time, though it also happens when is in battery mode with the same frequency even with >90% battery.

Before all this started, I had a weird issue in which the battery percentage would go from 100% to around 15% and then 100% again in a second, but I just procrastinated solving the problem (dumb decision, I realize now)

On additional notes: The battery is not removable in this model (I haven't opened it though). The battery it’s almost two years old, is the original that came with the notebook in January from 2017. I understand that it’s kind of old but this is just too much.

Thanks in advance, i usually avoid asking things becaue it seems that everythig is already answered somewhere but this time i couldn’t find a solution : /

Soluzione Prescelta

I’m sorry for not answering but i have been really busy with college.

But good news, i found what was the problem, it a BIOS problem with my specific model, the Ideapad 700-15ISK.

There are some post about it in the Lenovo site and i have no idea how I missed them in the past, I promise that I searched like 5 different times with weeks of time between each one and I found nothing.

Anyways, thanks for the help, here is the post that helped me if anyone need it sometime in the far future

Hi @asderg ,

Try running a battery report to check the condition of the battery.

If you decide to replace that battery due to its’ condition, here’s a link to the service manual, scroll to p.35 to view the necessary pre-requisite steps and then the procedure to remove/replace the battery.

Batteries are available online. Just search for Ideapad 700 battery to get results

Update (10/10/2018)

Hi @asderg ,

Just verifying that you have you checked Power Options in Control Panel to ensure that laptop will not go to sleep when the AC power is connected Check if setting is "never”

Try using the laptop in safe mode and see if it occurs. Hopefully you won't have to wait that long to know, but perhaps you might have to, as you said it occurs only a few times per day

This mode only uses Windows drivers and doesn't load any other programs at startup that you may have installed and are running in the background.

Just trying to eliminate other potential causes

it's certainly not in the best conditions (DESIGN CAPACITY : 45 mWh _ FULL CHARGE CAPACITY : 37 mWh), but it really could be just that?

My last notebook had an awful batterie (1 hour top) and it just wont go to sleep while plugged in, I have never seen that, I'm not sure if changing the battery will solve the problem and it's not cheap at all, specially here in Chile, spare parts are rare and expensive : (

Thanks

Yeah both settings are in never and I'm using the high performance settings

I'll try using the laptop in safe mode tomorrow, I'll watch movies and see if something happens, thanks!
