I had this problem, too. The red light is flashing when you hold power button is to signal that the battery is disconnected. This issue is caused by poor design. The magnet from the middle speaker sits on top of where the battery connects into the circuit board, thus pushing against the connector and unplugging the battery. This can be fixed by taking the speaker apart and then you have two options. Option 1: If you know how to solder you can solder the wires into the board, bend in a way where the speaker won't hit them. Secure with electrical tape and reassemble. Option 2: There will be a red female connector in the center of the board where the battery plugs in, disconnect the battery and pull on the plastic connector on the board until it pulls free from the board. You should now just have two pins sticking up and you just needs to simplify reconnect the battery being mindful of polarity (what is positive and what is negative ). By removing the plastic it allows the battery connector to sit lower on the circuit board, keeping it free from hitting the speaker and it also will have more of a “bite" on the pins. I hope this helps you.

The device is very well built, but is actually easy to disassemble.

With the tip of a small screwdriver, pry out the front screen a little at a time from all sides until it pulls away.

The 8 screws that hold the speakers also hold the unit together... Do not remove the tiny screws that hold the light diffuser. Instead, use your nails, or other thin, nonmetallic tool to pry it out of the hole from the edges. Done!

On mine, the battery connection seemed good but still had blinking red light after I reconnected it. Also my Soundbox Pro Plus has three wires coming from the battery, not two like yours. I think my battery is just too dead to charge. I disconnected the battery cable and can still use the speaker when it's plugged into USB power all the time.

You battery is likely defective… I replaced the balance circuitry on the 2 cell battery pack, now it is charging, but much slower since what I used was not the same exact circuit.
